About the Speakers
Ashley Navarro, MS, CGC
Genetic Counseling Manager & Certified Genetic Counselor at the Dignity Health Cancer Institute
Ashley Navarro joined the Dignity Health Cancer Genetics Program in March 2018 as a full time remote genetic counselor. She works from her home in Portland, OR. Ashley is a graduate of the Stanford University School of Medicine Human Genetics and Genetic Counseling program where she spent her research years looking at the "Attitudes and Uptake of Genetic Counseling in the African American Community". Prior to joining the Dignity Health team, she worked hard alongside a medical oncologist creating and running a cancer genetics screening and prevention program at Palo Alto Medical Foundation in the Bay Area. Her entire career as a genetic counselor has been focused on providing care for patients with personal and/or family history of cancer. She has taken specialized training courses in health literacy and is also very passionate about providing genetic counseling services to underprivileged and underrepresented populations. When she is not working, she is spending time in the pool with her two children or on the softball diamond helping coach her daughter's little league team or exploring new dining options with her husband.

"I founded CancerIQ with the mission to scale genetics beyond academic medical centers to community hospitals so everyone has access to precision cancer prevention. One of our top priorities is to continue our investment in the core group that helped us get our start — genetic counselors, including those like Ashley Navarro, MS, CGC. To continue helping more patients stay ahead of cancer, we need to prevent burnout in this precious specialty workforce, to scale their capacity, and help them find more joy at work."
